The Church no longer gives recommended amounts for how much long-term food to store. This suggested outline is simply a way of dividing up your cannery orders so that the cost is spread out over each month.
Remember – the long-term storage food items are your 4th priorty. A 3-month supply of every-day foods is your 1st priority. See the Helpful Hints page for more information.
To obtain your long-term storage, simply order a minimum of 6 cans per month from the Cannery. The following amounts are estimated for one person for one year:
36 cans of Wheat
+ 24 cans of Rice
+ 12 cans of Beans
Total = 72 cans, which is 6 cans per month for one year.
(Double your monthly order if you can.)
Once you have your wheat, rice and beans, consider adding more variety to your long term storage by ordering 6 cans per month of the following:
12 cans Oats
+ 12 cans Sugar
+ 12 cans Macaroni
+ 12 cans Dry Milk
+ 6 cans Cocoa Mix
+ 6 cans Fruit Drink Mix
+ 6 cans Dried Apple Slices
+ 3 cans Dehydrated Onions
+ 3 cans Dehydrated Carrots
Total = 72 cans, which is 6 cans per month for one year.
TOTAL: 144 cans in a year just by ordering 12 cans each month. Awesome!
